NSW Heritage Plate Price Performance 2012-2017
I’m a big fan of heritage plates – they are numeral only plates that were first issued between 1910-1924 that are quite hard to come by. Shannon’s does a twice yearly auction in Sydney.
Are they an investment though? 3 Digit plates like ‘317’ or ‘960’ appear to have hit a peak, with the average auction price for them staying around the $100k mark, where as 4 and 5 digit plates appear to have doubled in price in the past 3 years – that could be due to the numerals being offered (some of the auctions are from the RTA, they might choose plates that people are more likely to buy i.e. with the number 8 which in Chinese is pronounced similar to ‘fortune’).
